Guided tours in the Conero area: Portonovo, Sirolo, Numana e Camerano
Guided tour of Portonovo
From Ancona the first port of call is Portonovo, the smallest retreat on the Conero Riviera, one of the nicest places of the Marche region, protected by the Regional Park of Conero Mount.
It is one of the prettiest white pebbled beach on the whole of the Northern Adriatic shore. On the bay, where flies the blue flag, there are few restaurants serving top quality fish.
The tour guide of Portonovo will show you the most remarkable tourist attractions of Portonovo; you’ll start your walking tour of Portonovo, by visiting the Fortino Napoleonico, a squat, blank-eyed fort built in 1808 by Napoleon's Italian Viceroy to fight off English ships. It is now a most singular hotel. On the way to the main square, the tour guide of Portonovo will stop at the salt lakes ( lagoon),featuring typical flora and fauna. The guided tour of Portonovo will finally finish with the cultural visit at the Romanesque church of Santa Maria di Portonovo . Built between 1034 and 1048, its curious form is unique in Italy and looks as if it might be more at home in Normandy. There are two nice beaches in Portonovo: “Della Vela” beach is a spectacular free public beach with a rock, shaped like a sail, at the very end of the south versant of the bay. The beach of Mezzavalle adds a touch of wilderness and scenery to the beauties of the bay.
Guided tour of Sirolo
The center of Sirolo lies on the southern slope of Mount Conero and is included in the Regional Park of Conero Mount.
The original town was built around a large medieval castle. It still preserves a medieval centre and a tree-lined balcony piazza that teeters above the sea. The tour guide of Sirolo will show you the most remarkable art attractions: the church of St. Nicholas , the Church of the Holy Rosary and the Cortesi Theatre. The guided tour of Sirolo will include the “ Badia San Pietro”, built in the 12th century as a Benedictine Hermitage and now a hotel. It is at the highest point on the Conero Mount reachable by car and worth the journey for the views. Beautiful beaches and warm weather attract tourists from mid May until late September. One of the nicest beach is called “ le Due Sorelle”, (“the Two Sisters beach”); it is Sirolo’s most picturesque beach, named so because of two twin rocks emerging from the sea ; it is the first white beach to be found of the southern flank of Conero Mount. In Summer it can be reached by boat. Departures are available from the port of Numana starting from mid June. Staying there until 3 p.m. is recommended. In Sirolo flies the Blue Flag. Blue Flag criteria include standards for water quality, safety, environmental education and information.
Guided tour of Numana
Numana, where flies the Blue Flag, is a central Adriatic seaside resort, which lies at the southern foot of Conero Mount. It is included in the Regional Park of Conero Mount. The historic center is in the area called Numana Alta. The tour guide of Numana will show you the most remarkable Numana Alta’s tourist attractions: the arch of a tower on the top of the hill overlooking the harbor ; the rest of the bell tower of a church or of a watchtower ; a state Antiquarium , an archeological museum documenting the history of the Piceni tribes who lived here until Rome muscled in, the Sanctuary of the Crucifix , containing a crucifix in cedar wood, a remarkable Byzantine sculpture dating back to the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries ; the city hall, a palace built in 1773 , once used as a summer residence of the bishops of Ancona; you’ll continue Numana guided tour walking down the costarella , one of the most typical streets of Numana . Numana Bassa features the tourist port and the white pebbled beach equipped with sun beds and umbrellas.
